Accessibility
Condominium information should reach every owner. Here is our standard, where we meet it, and where we do not yet.
Our commitment
SquareSync is used by owners and residents of every age and ability to read notices, submit requests and access their corporation's documents. An owner who cannot use the portal is an owner who cannot exercise their rights, so accessibility is a functional requirement rather than a nice-to-have.
We design and test the platform and this website against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, which is the standard the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and its Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation refer to.
What is in place
- Semantic HTML structure with a logical heading order, so screen readers and outline navigation work.
- Full keyboard operation, with a visible focus indicator on every interactive element.
- Text and interface colours tested for contrast at Level AA in both light and dark themes.
- Text resizing to 200% without loss of content or function, and layouts that reflow on small screens.
- Form fields with associated labels, and errors described in text rather than by colour alone.
- Meaningful alternative text on informative images; decorative images marked as decorative.
- Motion and parallax effects disabled automatically when the operating system requests reduced motion.
- No content that flashes more than three times per second.
Where we are not there yet
Stating a standard is easy; meeting it everywhere is not. These are the areas we know need work, and we would rather publish them than imply the job is finished:
- Documents uploaded by corporations and management companies — declarations, by-laws, minutes, reserve fund studies — are frequently scanned PDFs without a text layer, and are not accessible to a screen reader. We cannot remediate a document we did not create, but we can flag it and we can accept an accessible version alongside it.
- Complex data tables and some report exports need further work on header association and reading order.
- A full independent accessibility audit has not yet been completed. Our current position is based on internal testing with keyboard navigation, screen readers and automated checks.
Accessible formats and support
If you need information from your corporation in an accessible format or with communication support, ask your corporation or its management company first — under the AODA they are required to provide it in a timely way and at no additional cost.
If the barrier is in the SquareSync platform itself, contact us directly and we will provide the information in an accessible format and work on the underlying issue.
Feedback
We want to hear where the platform fails you. Tell us what you were trying to do, what page or screen you were on, and what assistive technology you were using if any. We acknowledge accessibility feedback within five business days and will tell you what we intend to do about it.
Email accessibility@squaresync.ca. If you would rather speak to someone or need another way to reach us, say so and we will arrange it.
Our own obligations
Square Sync Inc. is an Ontario employer and is subject to the AODA. Our accessibility policies, our multi-year accessibility plan and our training records are available on request.
